Sister Rain ble dannet i 1988 og slapp sitt selvtitulerte debutalbum samme år, med musikk inspirert av amerikansk undergrunn og 60-talls psykedelia. De tusen første utgavene av Sister Rain var forsynt med håndlagete silketrykkomslag. Albumet var en av de første utgivelsene til den gang nystartede Voices of Wonder Records. Bandet besto av musikere med bakgrunn i band som the Tables, A Technicolor Dream, Spacelings, og andre samtidige Oslo-baserte band. Med gruppens to neste album beveget Sister Rain seg mer mot pop, og på 12-tommeren Shine fra 1991 kan man høre inspirasjon fra Madchester–bølgen og housemusikk. Deretter ble Sister Rain lagt på is. Amerikanske Guns’N’Roses hadde på ukjent vis kommet over Sister Rains album Wild Flowers Grow (1991). Guns’N’Roses spilte i Oslo i forbindelse med Use Your Illusion-turnen i 1993 og det ble opprettet kontakt mellom bandene. Denne kontakten førte til starten av bandet Merchants of Venus, hvor medlemmer fra begge band deltok. Så fulgte en lengre periode med liten aktivitet, før bandet gjorde albumcomeback med Sisters Kitchen i 2011.

Sister Rain was formed in 1988 and released their self-titled debut album the same year, with music inspired by American underground and 60s psychedelia. The first thousand copies of Sister Rain were supplied with handmade silkscreen covers. The album was one of the first releases for the then newly founded Voices of Wonder Records. The band consisted of musicians with backgrounds in bands such as the Tables, A Technicolor Dream, Spacelings, and other contemporary Oslo-based bands. On the group's next two albums, Sister Rain moved more towards pop, and on the 12-inch Shine from 1991, inspiration from the Madchester wave and house music can be heard. Sister Rain was then put on hold. American band Guns'N'Roses had somehow come across Sister Rain's album Wild Flowers Grow (1991). Guns'N'Roses played in Oslo in connection with the Use Your Illusion tour in 1993 and contact was established between the bands. This contact led to the formation of the band Merchants of Venus, which featured members from both bands. A long period of inactivity followed, before the band made a comeback album called Sisters Kitchen in 2011.
