History
1.Voices Music & Entertainment AS (VME) was founded in 1988 by Ketil Sveen and Dag Krogsvold. In the first years the company was a label focusing on signing and developing Norwegian rock acts. Since then the company has expanded rapidly, and business areas now also include distribution and publishing. In 1996 VoW founded a fully owned subsidiary in Denmark bringing in Tom Jensen as partner in the company.
In 2000 we established an important joint-venture company;
DJ Beat Records Scandinavia AS, together with DJ Beat Records GmbH from Switzerland. DJ Beat Scandinavia is releasing Dance/Trance in our territory. From the beginning of 2004 DJ Beat Records Scandinavia AS is a fully owned subsidiary of VME. DJ Beat Records Scandinavia now works very closesly with Aqualoop Records in Germany. Our first project together “Hard Dance Mania” went to # 1 in the charts in Norway. The success continued with volume 2 & 3 with high chart positions in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
In 2001 we established a fully owned subsidiary in Sweden; Voices Music & Entertainment Sweden AB. In august 2003 the office was closed and we entered a strategic alliance with Showtime Distribution AB
Our strongest market penetration is in Norway where we are one of the leading independent record companies with a market share between 3 – 4 %. In July 2002, thanks to the successful marketing of Kinks “Ultimate Collection” our market share exceeded 4.3 % and we were bigger than BMG. In 2003 we continued our summer success with a market share of 6.3 %, this also happened in 2005 with a market share of 6.9 %, the same as Warner Music.
VME now employs a total of 17 people (10 in Norway and 7 in Denmark). Turnover for VME Scandinavia in 2004 was MNOK 39 up from MNOK 35 in 2003. Our company has always been profitable.
